Wow! The Magic Question… asked by someone other than myself. I’ve been asking this question for years! Even here… and every time it goes unanswered – almost avoided. I finally gave up sometime last year, after asking here again – thinking surely in today’s world no person with such a famous image could totally, completely escape some kind of visibility.

Mr. Madsen’s image is still used on this website! I’ve been told over the years; “He’s a family man in Beaverton and works as a Golf Pro, Banker, etc.” ???

It really is hard to believe he could have just dissapeared.

I am not a fan of this gentleman in any way. I’m much more a fan of the female actor used in the later ’80s commercials. Why do folks focus on Scott, but ignore the other Soloflex actors? Just curious.

Do you have any sketches, drawings, photos, of Jerry trying to come up with the Soloflex design. I think our bloggers would like to see the evolution of Soloflex. We sort of get a glimpse of it on the Soloflex story.

They were all good. But Madsen was a true physical culturist. In his 1985 fitness book he thanks SOLOFLEX, and shows how he has spent many years developing his unique physique. With the use of even simple bicycle inner-tubes and a stick, he discusses his approach to fitness. And it’s impressive. I always just thought this guy looked like and performed the SOLOFLEX exercises like a guy who used it. He seemed at home on SOLOFLEX. The others like (Potter) to me, it was obvious they only modeled the machine.

In the 1983 “The Promise”, Madsen demonstrates this machine like no others after him. To me, he moved on it like a guy that had been using it for years… and he didn’t have a “Gym physique”. His look was attainable. Realistic. Not 4 percent body fat. Not huge pecs or biceps. He had a balanced properly proportioned muscularity. Just like the guy says in the video. He sealed the deal!

I am aware of the fanbase he started to quickly gain. But for me, he just looked like what this machine could do for someone. That’s it.

Yes sir, I can’t disagree with your observation on that female model with great legs. I know many comment on her on the youtube soloflex infomercial.

I think Scott Madsen made me gay…
As a teenager I ordered lots of Soloflex brochures!
He had a perfect physicque–not too much muscle, just very well toned, and yes he was hot!
Would love to see him now!
(If anyone has his poster book, I lost mine and would do anything to get one!)

I wondered why the company got away from the original machine…it looked better than the main one and the wooden bench looked awesome. some one is on kijiji looking to buy the original and even gives example pics…that tells you something. i have the latest but still would like the original…

    Hi Tim,
I am sorry but you are mistaken. Scott Madsen is still alive and still living in the N.W. where he is from. He has a family and is doing just fine. I am sorry you got bad information. That is the reason for not making a big deal of it.
    Thank you for your comment.

    Hi Sam,
It is not the Scott Madsen you are referring to. Scott Madsen that is in the Soloflex commercials is alive and well and still living in the N.W. He is not sick. I am sorry this rumor got started.

    Thank you.

I’m glad to hear Scott is doing well.

To narrow his location down a little, an internet search yields the following:

He lives in Camas, WA, a small town along the Columbia River, about 10 miles east, southeast of Vancouver, WA, which is also along the Washington-Oregon border.

  14. Good afternoon,

I remember as young kid and teen with cerebral palsy sitting on the bench during recess watching the other kids play kickball, running or hang on monkey bars. To me, it looked like total fun. At 19, I was watching TV and saw a Soloflex commerical and Scott performing exercises with the machine. I felt inspired I bought the poster. I began to work out so that I could be a part of the United Cerebal Palsy (UCP) games that are similiar to Speical Olympics. but these games more competive. At the games, I did track and field events I won my share of local and state game medals. I wish I could thank Scott Madsen and Solofex team for giving me the inspiration to go for the gold!

KOIN TV Channel 6, Portland, OR, 11 PM news reported that Scott Madsen, former model for Soloflex, was sentenced to prison. A Google search found a news report in the Vancouver, WA newspaper, The Columbian. Here is the link: http://www.columbian.com/news/2010/oct/04/oregon-man-sentenced-for-stealing-from-vancouver-c/

Here is the text from The Columbian’s report:

    Originally published October 4, 2010 at 3:11 p.m., updated October 4, 2010 at 9:17 p.m.

A Hillsboro, Ore., man was sentenced Monday to two years in federal prison for stealing approximately a quarter of a million dollars from a Vancouver company.

Scott S. Madsen, 48, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.

Madsen was the former general manager for Adair Financial Services LLC, 1101 S.E. Tech Center Drive Suite 160.

“The defendant’s crime victimized not only Adair, but all of its hard-working employees, from whose pockets this defendant stole hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said U.S. Attorney Dwight C. Holton. “Economic crimes are very serious offenses, and we will have to continue to prosecute, convict and seek prison time for those who steal money from others.”

In March, Madsen pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property.

According to the Department of Justice, Madsen admitted that for three years he submitted $248,544 in fraudulent expense reimbursement requests to Adair.

The criminal charge was based on the fact that he transported fraudulently obtained checks across state lines.

After Madsen serves his sentence, he will be on supervised release for three years.

U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman ordered Madsen to pay full restitution to Adair.

This for for the Oregon Live article….there is a big differnece between embezzling and theft, just so you know!!! And those who judge without knowing the story behind the story…shame on you!!!! Maybe someday you are in a position to be judged unfairly and then see how it feels. Scott is still a wonderful person who made a mistake and is paying for it. FYI – don’t believe everyhting you read. Amen

As a gay man, I have long held the images of Scott in high regard, and regret the unfortunate experiences he had with less restrained members of the gay community Finding this tonight was a complete accident, and I feel bad for Scott. Sure, I don’t have a clue what the real story is – and that’s really not important. The lucky thing for Scott is that he got caught. It doesn’t sound to me like having a great body and intense fame have been the greatest foundation for an adult. But having passed my 50th birthday, I know that this time of one’s life is pivotal. I wish Scott the best of introspective times as he serves his sentence. He’s now spending his first Christmas behind bars, and that has got to be the worst for anyone in his shoes, contemplating a horrendous financial future after so much good befell him early in life. Naturally this just goes to show that one must never stop working to make the best of themselves, no matter how good others tell them that they are. Here’s where he’s going to have to see if the stamina of his spirit can match the stamina of his youth. A tough road. I hope he makes it.

  18. I remember Scott because I was in high school at the time and he looked like someone I was in school with. I saw him in a magazine ad – I think it was “Rolling Stone”. I also remember when I saw him on tv when reporters were at his high school and he just kept walking not answering their questions. I thought – how cool is this guy – a high school guy who took care of himself and had pride in his body and was still down to earth. I still want to get a Soloflex but I’m afraid I might snap my bones at this late stage in my life. I’m also waiting for them to get down to around $20. Scott is still an inspiration to me though – the guy I admire and think I should be…

  19. Scott Madsen is now serving a 2 year term in Federal Prison. I’m his age and still using the Soloflex he helped inspire me to buy. It moved with me from Chicago to Hawaii and then from land to sea. I now have it aboard my sailing yacht called Hot Buoys. Staying fit in both mind and body is very important to me. It is my ticket to a life of adventure.

While living in Seattle, I purchased a big poster of this Soloflex guy. I also drooled every time one of his commercials was shown. In the beginning, they had someone else doing the voice. One day, they had HIM do the voice and I was totally floored how “lispy-nelly-gay” his voice was. Shortly after that, I remember he was replaced. I still have that poster. OH..and I still drool over him. heh
