The Soloflex Story
Soloflex revolutioned the home fitness industry with the introduction of the Soloflex Muscle Machine in 1978.
Read more about Soloflex’s values, history, and plans for the future.
Our new website is going to be launched Wednesday, August 26th and we’ll be taking orders for the original Soloflex!
You have to wonder what he’s up to these days. We need to find him and get him to comment on the blog. How fun would that be?
Whoever finds Scott first and gets him to leave a comment on the blog gets a free Soloflex T shirt.

Here’s the original Soloflex! This photo was taken from a brochure published in 1982.

This was the photo in our 1st Playboy ad, 1980. What about that Speedo..hot ;)

I asked my boyfriend who Gale Sayers was. He thought I was joking, buy hey, football’s not really my thing.

Soloflex assembly is one bolt!! This is a page out of a early 80’s brochure.

The original Soloflex straps are actually airplane landing gear shocks. They are still being manufacturing for several models of small aircraft. You’d have to ask Jerry the specifics.

Since Soloflex’s are built like a tank, we’ve been having great success selling refurbished Soloflex machines. Once we get them, we go through a thorough process of stripping them down, repainting them, replace any missing or damaged parts and and send them out with all new straps. Just like new. We have barely been able to keep up with the demand. So my question is this…
Is there a market for brand new Soloflex machines? Would relaunching and marketing the Soloflex as the original and the best barbell machine really have broad appeal in 2009? If we did bring it back, what model do you believe is the best? Is it the original with the 90 degree welded mainframe, wood bench and welded lever arm? Or is the latest model of the Soloflex the best? Do you like the bent frame and fully padded bench? Which would you rather buy? Why do you believe one would sell better than the other?
I know many of you have already voiced your opinion about the original, thank you for the input! No matter what we decide, we will always put out the best Soloflex we can. New or refurbished. And yes, they will always be made in the US.

We will be offering the original Soloflex next month with the launch of our new website. We have been energized by all of your comments. We know we can bring the classic Soloflex to a new generation of users. Perhaps with a greater emphasis on the free weight options. I think that producing a few commercials in the same style as the hybrid videos, would be a huge success. There really is no better, safer alternative to barbell exercises than the original Soloflex. We are launching a few ads on cable for our WBV platform and the Lift, but also look forward to relaunching what is the best and most versatile home gym ever created. Thank you for all the support and encouragement!

Here it is! This is the first shot of the machine. We wanted to create a machine for free body weight exercises and squats. Not to mention every barbell exercise you can think of. It’s perfect for traditional weight lifting, CrossFit fanatics, P90X or anyone else looking for a great workout rooted in gymnastic and Olympic style training. It’s also perfect for the beginner. The intensity you bring, is up to you. Everything comes back around. This is where it all started, tried and true.
We thought it was time offer a machine that allows you to safely and comfortably do the most essential exercises from your home. It’s simple, built tough and incredibly functional. We hope you’ll love it.
We are currently working on a new website which should be launched by the end of July. This new machine should be ready to purchase by then.
We’ve gotten some great feed back! Here are the pictures I took this Saturday after we made some changes to the machine.
Tomorrow I’ve got two CrossFit certified trainers coming out to use it and give me their input. I am really interested to hear what they have to say.
I am very grateful for all the comments and good advice so far. I look forward to more ideas flowing in from all of you. If you have an idea, if you know exactly what you want out of a home gym….leave a comment! ;)
